Moving Guide: Expert Tips for a Smooth Relocation

Before the Moving Day

1. Start Packing Early

If you are packing yourself, we recommend starting with non-essential items a few weeks before your move. Label every box clearly with the room name and contents to make unpacking easier.

We also offer a professional packing service if you would prefer our experienced team to safely pack your belongings for you.

2. Declutter Before You Move

Moving is the perfect opportunity to get rid of items you no longer need. Donate, recycle, or dispose of unwanted belongings before packing or before our team arrives to pack for you.

3. Keep Important Items Separate

Pack passports, keys, chargers, medication, important documents, valuables, and a change of clothes in a separate essentials bag that stays with you during the move.

4. Disconnect Appliances

Ensure washing machines, dishwashers, and fridges are emptied, cleaned, and disconnected before moving day unless agreed otherwise in advance.

5. Protect Fragile Items

If you are packing fragile items yourself, please ensure they are wrapped carefully using bubble wrap, packing paper, or blankets, and clearly labelled as fragile.

Alternatively, our professional packing team can safely pack delicate and valuable items for extra peace of mind.

6. Arrange Parking Access

If possible, reserve a parking space close to your property for the removal vehicle to help speed up loading and unloading.

7. Notify Utility Providers

Inform your gas, electricity, water, broadband, and council providers about your moving date and update your address where necessary.

8. Check Everything Before Leaving

Before leaving your property, double-check cupboards, lofts, garages, sheds, and drawers to make sure nothing is left behind.

9. Keep Children & Pets Safe

Moving day can be busy and stressful. If possible, arrange childcare or keep pets in a quiet, secure area away from the moving activity.

10. Stay Relaxed

Our professional removals team is here to help make your move as smooth and stress-free as possible. Whether you choose to pack yourself or use our packing service, good preparation helps ensure everything runs efficiently on the day.

                                                                            Moving Day Checklist

Being organised before moving day helps make the process smoother, quicker, and less stressful. Please use the checklist below to help prepare for your move before our removals team arrives.

                                                      ✔ Confirm Moving Arrangements

Make sure all moving details have been confirmed in advance, including:

  • Arrival time of the removals team
  • Access to both properties
  • Parking arrangements
  • Key collection details
  • Any special instructions or access restrictions

Please inform us beforehand if there are lifts, narrow staircases, parking restrictions, or anything else that may affect the move.

                                                      ✔ Pack Your Everyday Essentials

Prepare a separate bag or box containing important items you may need during the move or on your first night in your new home, such as:

  • Chargers
  • Medication
  • Toiletries
  • Snacks and drinks
  • Important paperwork
  • A change of clothes
  • Kettle, tea, coffee, and basic kitchen essentials

Keeping these items separate will make them easier to access.

✔ Keep Important Documents & Valuables Safe

Please keep all important documents and valuable belongings with you during the move, including:

  • Passports
  • Birth certificates
  • Financial paperwork
  • Jewellery
  • Keys
  • Cash and bank cards
  • Sentimental or irreplaceable items

These items should not be packed onto the removals vehicle.

                                                         ✔ Prepare Appliances for Transport

Unless agreed otherwise, all appliances should be disconnected and ready before moving day. Please remember to:

  • Defrost fridges and freezers at least 24 hours before the move
  • Empty washing machines and dishwashers
  • Remove loose shelves or trays
  • Ensure appliances are clean and dry

                                                                 ✔ Furniture Dismantling

Some furniture may need to be dismantled to allow safe removal from the property.

We usually dismantle and reassemble furniture where necessary. However, if you decide to carry this out yourself, all dismantling must be completed before our team arrives.

Please note that furniture not dismantled by our team will not be reassembled by us at delivery.

Keep screws, bolts, and fittings together in labelled bags to make reassembly easier.

                                                                 ✔ Protect Floors & Walls

To help prevent damage during the move, we recommend protecting floors, carpets, and walls using:

  • Cardboard
  • Dust sheets
  • Floor coverings
  • Protective padding where needed

If you require professional floor protection, we can provide this for an additional charge upon request.

                                                                 ✔ Create an Inventory List

Preparing an inventory of your belongings can help you stay organised during the move and may also assist for insurance purposes.

This can include:

  • Number of boxes
  • Furniture items
  • Fragile belongings
  • Valuable items

                                                                  ✔ Keep Valuables Close By

Items such as laptops, jewellery, personal documents, medication, and sentimental belongings should remain with you rather than being loaded onto the removals vehicle.

                                                                  ✔ Prepare Drinks & Snacks

Moving day can be long and tiring, so it is always helpful to keep refreshments available throughout the day.

✔ Arrange Child & Pet Care

If possible, arrange for children and pets to stay with family or friends during the move to help keep them safe and reduce disruption.

                                                                  ✔ Prepare Payment

Please ensure payment arrangements have been agreed beforehand and that payment is ready before unloading unless alternative arrangements have been confirmed.

✔ Carry Out a Final Check

Before leaving the property, check all:

  • Rooms
  • Cupboards
  • Wardrobes
  • Loft spaces
  • Garages and sheds
  • Outdoor areas and storage spaces

It is the customer’s responsibility to ensure nothing is left behind.

                                                                    ✔ Stay Organised

Keep all moving paperwork, contact numbers, and important information easily accessible throughout the day in case needed.

                                                  ✔ Professional Packing Services Available

We also offer a professional packing service for customers who would prefer assistance preparing for their move. Our experienced team can safely pack everything from everyday household items to delicate and valuable belongings.

Quotation FAQ’s

How do I secure my booking?

To  proceed with our services, we require a deposit to be paid. This  deposit reserves the date and the team for your service, ensuring a  smooth and timely relocation process.

There are also some items that I didn't  include in the original quote, although we have not decided about that.  Could you tell me how that would affect the price?

Adding  items not included in the original quote may impact the final price of  the service. To proceed with including these items, please provide a  photo for further assessment. Depending on the size, weight, and  quantity of the additional items, the price may be adjusted accordingly.

In some cases, the items are bespoke. Will  someone come around to assess if they can be dismantled, considering our  time concerns?

While  we don't schedule site visits for assessments, we can conduct another  brief video survey to address specific concerns regarding dismantling.  If the items are not permanently attached, such as built-in, glued, or  stapled furniture, we can disassemble and reassemble them similarly to  standard store-bought furniture. This will help us determine the best  approach for handling your bespoke items efficiently while addressing  your time constraints.

My move is subject to completion and I need to vacate the property by a certain time. How does this work?

The  team's arrival time is typically between 8:00-9:00 am. It's important  to note that your move is subject to completion, but leaving by 1:00 pm  shouldn't pose an issue as long as your personal belongings are packed  before the movers arrive. This time frame allows sufficient time for the  moving process while ensuring you meet your departure deadline.

Will your team reassemble any dismantled items?

Absolutely.  All items taken apart by our team will be reassembled at the  destination address. We ensure that none of the items are glued or  stapled during disassembly, making reassembly straightforward if  necessary. Your belongings will be returned to their original state upon  arrival at the destination.

Do you offer furniture dismantling and reassembly services?

We  provide furniture dismantling and reassembly services as needed. Our  team will assess each item on the day of the move to determine if  dismantling is required. For items that can't fit through doors in their  current state, we'll dismantle and reassemble them at the destination  address. Additionally, reassembling flat pack furniture (from new), such  as IKEA furniture, is available by prior agreement, at an hourly rate  charge.

Do you disconnect white goods such as washing machines and dishwashers, and is there an additional charge?

We  offer assistance with disconnecting washing machines and dishwashers,  provided it's a straightforward disconnection/reconnection. However,  please note that we are not plumbers, and we cannot take responsibility  for any leaks that may occur during this process. This is conducted  under the customer’s responsibility.

Can you reconnect appliances like the washing machine at the destination address, and is there an additional charge?

Our  team can assist with reconnecting the washing machine at the  destination address if it's a straightforward task. There is no extra  charge for this service. However, please note that we are not plumbers,  and we cannot take responsibility for any leaks that may occur during  this process. This is conducted under the customer’s responsibility.

Do you agree to transport some plants in tubs?

If it was agreed with us in advance, yes, we can transport plants.

How many parking bays should be secured for each moving truck, and where should they be located?

It's  essential to secure two parking bays for each moving truck within 20  metres of the front door, preferably on the same side of the road for  both the current and new addresses. It's important to consider the total  number of trucks needed for your service when arranging parking.

How can parking for the removal vans be secured for packing and moving day?

- suspend parking with the council (preferred if possible);
- provide parking permits and have the bays reserved for when the trucks arrive;
-  let your neighbours know that you are moving and require their help.  Ask them to free some parking spaces for you. We are positive they won’t  say no.

Who is responsible for parking charges or fines incurred during the packing/removal service?

Parking  charges or fines incurred during the packing/removal service are the  client's responsibility, and they will be added to the final bill unless  previously agreed with us to handle them.

How do we notify you of any damage to the goods, and is there a specific timeframe for notification?

For  goods that we deliver, you must inform us in writing of any visible  loss or damage at the time of delivery. Additionally, regardless of the  circumstances, notification must be provided within seven (7) days of  our delivery of the goods. Kindly check our T&C’s.

What packing services implies?

We  will carefully pack all your belongings and we will bring all the  necessary packing materials for the selected service to ensure your  items are well-protected during the move.
For moves within 25 miles  radius we use professional plastic removal crates which need to be  collected 1 week after the move, unless otherwise agreed.

Can I accompany the driver in the van during transportation?

Unfortunately,  we are unable to accommodate passengers in our vehicles for safety and  liability reasons. Our policy prohibits any unauthorised individuals  from travelling in the van with our drivers. However, rest assured that  our trained professionals will handle the transportation of your  belongings safely and efficiently without the need for additional  passengers.
